FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT NINJA 250
- Is it enough to just change the exhaust to slip-on for maximum power ?
A
: No, there are 2 catalytic converters , one in the mid pipe and one at
the back end of the original muffler. Changing the muffler won't
eliminate the midpipe converters which is a huge restriction. If you
only want sound, slip-on is sufficient for this bike. If you want
performance, go for full exhaust system
- Do I need a jetkit such as dynojet or Factory pro ?
A :
Depends on how you want your bike to perform. The standard bike is made
to conform with EUROII specs,it's jetted lean on low and mid range but
rich on top. The jetkit will correct this problem as well as increase
top end performance, merely by removing the intake snorkle from the
airbox. If you want your bike to perform maximally, then jetkit is
highly recommended especially if you have installed a full exhaust
system
- Do the Iridium plugs increase performance ?A : Yes, but not
significant. It only happens on the mid range as tested on our
dynamometer. You'll feel it on acceleration but we think this is just
optional.
- Is it necessary to change the coils to a hi performance one ?
A
: A big NO - coils are designed specifically for each type of bike with
a specific resistance for maximum performance. Changing the coils means
you are risking damage to your CDI unit, and changing the coils also
won't result in an increase performance! However some of our customers
reportedly changing the coils sucessfully with an aftermarket brand,
some also report a broken CDI as a result . If you want, you can change
the spark plug wires safely, and this is more than enough.
- Does an aftermarket exhaust from US or Japan perform much better than a local brand ?
A
: This is also a big NO as we have proved time and time again on our
dyno. Performance is closely related to a good pipe design and flow on
a 4 strokes engine, and NOT by BRAND - obviously if you are a brand
minded person then we have nothing to say :) Our full exhaust system is
comparable to those such as Yosihmura, Nassert Beet, Nojima, etc. in
terms of performance and sound. We keep evolving by designing new
models to compete with them, but there's no way they can compete in
terms of service and prices with our brand :)
- How often should we change engine oil?
A : The first
500km is crucial, run it at max 60% throttle for break in, then change
your filter and oil. After that, depends on your daily activitiy with
the bike, oil can be change at 5000km interval and filters at 10000km.
If you do a stop and stuck in traffic a lot, then it's recommended to
change oil at 2500km and filter every 7500km - changing you oil and
filter often won't hurt your engine, BUT NOT changing it will
definitely damage it.
- What maximum tire size will fit ?
A : recommended
150/60/17 read and 120/60/17 front - some fit 160/60/17 but it won't
look good, because the tire is too wide to fit on the OEM wheel. 150/70
can fit but also won't look good cause the tire will look too thick.
- Whats the ideal tire pressure ?
A : 33psi for both front and rear is good!
- What fuel RON should I use ?
A : at least a 92 RON is recommended and unleaded
- Why does my radiator fan won't start even though it's hot and I have been cruising for a long time ?
A : Your fan will kick in automatically around 95-102 degrees celcius.
If you experience overheat and the indicator is ON, then check your fan
fuse under the seat.
- Why is my exhaust keep popping at deceleration after I change to a full system exhaust ?
A : You can fix this by opening the fuel mixture screw under the carb
to 2.5 turns, but this won't eliminate the popping completely. To
eliminate it, you need to block the clean air system located on top of
the cylinder head (contact our workshop about this). The purpose of
clean air is to inject fresh air to the exhaust valve on low rpm to
clean up the emission. This causes some unburnt hot fuel mixes with
cold air on its way out, which suddenly expand on deceleration, causing
the air to explode, hence the popping sound. By richening, you create a
more ideal mixture on low rpm and deceleration, but won't remove the
popping compeletly.
- Is there a cat in my fuel tank ??
A : That miauwwww sound is a fuel pressure releasing from the tank. No need to worry :)
- Do I need to change the pilot jet to 40 ?
A
: Now this is the most popular mod perhaps here, guided by misbeliefs.
Even dynojet don't include pilotjet on their stage 2 kit, and factory
pro stated RARELY used even though it's there in their red kit. Why?
Simple, because all you need to do to richen the low end mixture is to
open the fuel mixture screw. We tested this on an AFR meter, the
reading already read 12.7 by opening 3 turns, so why bother changing
the pilot jet ?? Unless you are doing a headwork then this is really ot
necessary.
- Does the open air POD filters create better performance ?
A : Not really ! depends on your engine condition, please read the JFC filter info on products page for the WHY part.
-
I'm using a full exhaust Yoshimura system and dynojetkit, my friend is
also using the same setup. Why does my bike only measure 28hp and his
bike 30hp ?
A : On performance tuning, we need to do a blue printing, mostly on the
cylinder head, because volumetric efficiency is very vital in 4 strokes
engine. Most factory produced engine will be miscalibrated by a few
micron or millimeter because its MASS production, and we found that the
cam gears position are slightly different from bike to bike. Also the
valve clearance is sometimes different, this causes difference in
performance. You need to do a blueprinting of the engine to set
everything exactly as factory specs to obtain similar performance.
- Does the aftermarket programmable CDI increase power ?A : Yes and No - on a standard engine it will increase acceleration slightly but doesnt contribute to a gain in tope end power - on a modified engine,YES this can increase power. one thing to remember is
SETTING UP A PROGRAMMABLE CDI MUST BE DONE ON A DYNO - not on the street so any changes will be reflected on the dyno graphs instead of just using your feeling.
